Heian Shrine (平安神宮, Heian Jingū) was built in Kyoto in 1895 for the 1100th anniversary of the capital’s founding. It is dedicated to the spirits of the first and last emperors who reigned in the city, Emperor Kammu (737-806) and Emperor Komei (1831-1867). The large torii gate marks the approach to the shrine. The shrine grounds are very spacious, with a wide-open court at the center. The shrine’s main buildings are a partial replica of the original Imperial Palace from the Heian Period, built on a somewhat smaller scale compared to the original.
The garden is representative of the Japanese garden from the Meiji era, and is designated as National Site of Scenic Beauty.

In this tour, we will walk under the giant Torii gate and visit the Heian Shrine. We will stroll around the paid garden called Heian Jingu Shinen 神苑 – god garden. We will use a high-resolution camera, so you’ll feel like you are actually walking with me through the garden!

You’ll also be able to see beautiful blue iris and pink azalea flowers. ✿
On top of that, we’ll drop by the Nishiki Market and Kyogoku shopping street for fun!
