Retro but Lively ~Ishikiri Shopping Street Walking Tour
Take a stroll down the Ishikiri Shopping Street which is lined with old-fashioned stores selling traditional street food such as oden (Japanese hotchpotch), wagashi (Japanese sweets), tsukemono (pickles), senbei (hand-made rice cracker), as well as an assortment of household goods. There are also quite a few uranai or shops here that do fortune telling. Along the way of the 900m shrine approach shopping street, there is the Great Buddha Statue of Ishikiri.
Known as “Ishikiri-san”, the Ishikiri Tsurugi Jinjya shrine is very popular among locals and is sought after for its healing powers against tumors and swellings. This explains why you will see a lot of people praying at the shrine.
