Be mesmerized by the ethereal beauty of brightly illuminated autumn leaves!

Nestled in the foothills of Mount Kurama is the Kifune Shrine, one of the oldest shrines in Japan. It is dedicated to the God of Water known as “Takaokami no Kami.” It is believed that sacred water flows here, and visitors can even bring it home with them. Another point of interest is an inner shrine called Yuinoyashiro where people seek divine intervention for matchmaking.

Kifune Shrine is a place enveloped in natural beauty and exhibits a fascinating aesthetic depending on the season. Adding to the charm of the foliage are lanterns that light up the colors of the leaves giving the trees an ethereal glow and is particularly mesmerizing at night.

During the fall season, the lights are all lit up to bring out the autumn hues of the leaves in an event known as the “Kibune Momiji Toro.” Kasuga lanterns can also be seen lining the stone stairway leading up to the shrine giving it a dreamlike glow featured in many local TV shows.
