Mt. Yoshino is a well-known cherry blossom viewing site that offers a unique and magnificent scenery. It is not only recognized as Japan’s No.1 sakura spot, but the whole mountain area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
There are a whopping 30,000 sakura trees on this mountain. The sakura view here is so gorgeous that it’s described as Hitome Senbon, meaning 1,000 sakura trees can be seen at a glance.
The sacred sakura trees on Mt. Yoshino have been revered for over 1300 years. There are four best viewing areas; Shimo-senbon (lower 1,000 trees), Naka-senbon (middle 1,000 trees), Kami-senbon (upper 1,000 trees) and Oku-senbon (inner 1,000 trees).
In this walking tour, we’ll start from the Shimo-senbon area and then walk up to the Naka-senbon sakura viewing spot. Along the way, we’ll stop by interesting shops like food stalls, souvenir shops, pickles stores, tofu restaurants, mochi shops, and ryokans (Japanese inns). We’ll also pay a visit to the World Heritage Zaōdō, before reaching the Naka-senbon viewing spot.
