Join us for Osaka Castle Ume (plum) blossoms viewing!
While many people dream of visiting Japan when Sakura flowers are in full bloom, there is another type of flower that is both admired and celebrated called Ume or plum blossoms. The Ume flowers symbolize patience, fidelity, elegance and dignity, and thus were believed to be the most representative of the Japanese character.
Ume blossoms look similar to Sakura blossoms in color (light to dark pink) but the shape is different. An Ume petal is round while Sakura is tear-drop shaped and has a cleft at the tip. The fruits of the plum tree are often made into a popular dish called the Umeboshi (salted plum) as well as delicious Umeshu (plum wine).
Join me as I take you to the Osaka Castle Park, which is home 1270 impressive plum trees of around 100 varieties!
