Craft Sakura Postcard in a Japanese Paper Shop
Ever heard of Washi 和紙, a special Japanese paper? It is different from the typical mass-produced, machine-made copy paper. Washi is hand-made paper that is not only exceptionally beautiful but is also quite durable. It is an artform in itself so much so that Japanese washi paper and paper-making are listed under the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
On 12 April, we will learn the history of Washi and the Washi making process, and even experience making our own Washi!
Miwako-san, the owner of the Japanese Washi shop “KAMITOWA” will teach us all there is to know about washi such as the materials, tools, and history. She will also show us the interesting process step-by-step!
After making Washi, you will learn how to write your name in Japanese on this special paper through a detailed demonstration. Please write your name on “Note” section when checkout if you wish to know your name in Japanese 🙂
* After the demonstration on live, we can send the washi paper to your address if you wish. This service costs additional $10 (material + shipping fee) and we’ll send the invoice separately to those who wish this service.
Miwako-san loves Goshuin – a seal stamp and signature given to worshippers and visitors to shrines and temples. She’ll show us the excellent collection of Goshuin that she has gathered through the years. Kami to Wa also has a Goshuin book-making class using washi, along with her beautiful washi paper collection.
